Katarina Witt started skating at age five. Her natural talents became more apparent, she received an entry at an Karl-Marx-Stadt school, which focuses on kids with a sporting talent. The coach Jutta was also there. Witt became a star in 1982, after she was second in her first World Championships at Copenhagen. Since then, her elegance and grace have caught the attention of everyone. Olympic success at Sarajevo, in the Sarajevo Winter Games of 1984, Katarina Witz won the female gold medal in figure skating after an intense contest. Four years later she took home another contest that was even more competitive. Witt actually fell short of the free skating contest, however she earned the gold medal based on her performance during the compulsory figure and the short-form program. Witt was the first repeated medalist in figure skating for women since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt was capable of returning to figure skating after her success as a movie actor. Witt competed at the Lillehammer Winter Games, 1994. Although she did not win an award for gold, the young skater impressed the crowd. Witt was inducted into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame on the 15th of April, 1995.
